It was the Christmas I was out of work and Milly was pregnant with Travis. The cat showed up a week before Christmas and I got a job at a Christmas tree lot the same day. Travis was born just after New Year’s and I found work at a warehouse and the cat disappeared.

When Travis was eight, Milly was abed with pneumonia at Christmas. The cat arrived again. Milly started improving and was well a week later and the cat departed.

Yesterday Travis didn’t come home from school. We were frantic. Then he and the cat came home together.

  1. Love this. How nice it would be if a cat appeared at the door of every lonely person’s door…especially during the holidays, which can be the loneliest time of all. Merry Christmas, Ron!

  2. that cat has talent! good luck trying to keep it around as it seems very independent, but it also know when he is needed. well done. magic in that fur.

  3. I thought the pace in that story was just right- really nicely dosed, the way it unfolded. A very nice little story indeed, nice thoughts and lovely to see something nice about wonderful little animals!
